Scientific Steering Committee and Advisory Board
We are committed to continuing our investments in research and have enlisted the support of the scientific community by forming a Scientific Steering Committee composed of prominent scientists from major research universities in the United States. The scientists on this committee are all independently funded by the National Institutes of Health to carry out research in areas related to transmission of infectious diseases. The Steering Committee has, in turn, identified and recruited independent scientists who are recognized as the leading experts in the area of airborne diseases to carry out the studies that validate the efficacy of Nozin. Validation and support from renowned physicians and researchers is central to our aim of providing quality health products to consumers.
Dr. Richard Markham (Bio), the Chairman of GLT’s Scientific Steering Committee, a Medical Doctor and renowned infectious disease specialist, is known for his groundbreaking work in the area of novel microbicides, an area that GLT is actively pursuing. Another Advisor to the Board, Dr. Xiao-Fang Yu (Bio). Dr. Xiao-Fang Yu, a Chinese native, recently published an article in Science that bolstered his reputation for innovation in creating a vaccine for AIDS. A multi-site vaccine trial using Dr. Xiao-Fang Yu’s technology is underway in China at the present.
These experts, and others, are actively contributing to the scientific direction of the Company.
The Steering Committee looks at disease prevention
The members of the Scientific Steering Committee are academic scientists
and physicians who are committed to the field of Public Health. This means
that much of their research has focused on the issue of disease prevention,
as opposed to disease treatment. Disease prevention is an area that, in
the past, has received less attention from the medical community. Most
physicians, after all, are trained to treat patients who come to them with
an illness. But as the costs of medical treatment continue to climb and as
those in the developed world, who can afford medical treatment, are
increasingly exposed to those in the less developed world, who cannot
afford medical treatment, it has become clear that simpler approaches,
which make disease prevention accessible to all individuals, must be
developed.
One approach that has proved useful is the development of alcohol-based hand sanitizers. But for many infections the hands serve only as the vehicle that carries germs to the site where infection is actually initiated, the nose. It is this concept of attacking infections at the site where the disease process actually begins that attracted the scientists who are members or advisors of the GLT Scientific Steering Committee. It is the scientists' goal to use rigorous scientific analysis to ensure that products such as Nozin Nasal Sanitizer are the most effective they can possibly be.

Research
Contributing Labs
Extensive studies were undertaken to demonstrate that Nozin Nasal Sanitizer is a safe, highly effective anti-microbial that provides long lasting action to help reduce the risk of infection. These studies were conducted at leading independent US testing centers specializing in antimicrobial and personal care product testing with results interpretation. All studies are statistically designed using Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) to ensure FDA/EPA regulatory compliance and market success. The following are some of the results from these tests.
Nozin kills germs in lab tests
Summary: In laboratory tests conducted at several leading, FDA recognized testing facilities, and under GLP testing protocols, Nozin Nasal Sanitizer was effective in killing at least 99.99% of bacterial pathogens such as staph aureus, strep pneumoniae, strep pyogenes, mycobacterium smegmatis, and 99.99% of various pathogenic virus including rhinovirus type-14 (often responsible for the common cold), human coronavirus (responsible for the deadly SARS outbreak) and influenza type-A (influenza contracted by humans and birds).
Summary: While it is difficult to simulate the varied conditions of the human nose in an in-vitro model, there are surrogate tests that have been developed to help simulate these conditions. One such surrogate study is the use of a biofilm to help model in-vivo conditions.
This study examined the ability of Nozin to inhibit the growth of bacteria in biofilms over a period of up to 8 hours. Staphylococcus aureus, the challenge strain selected for the experiment and a pathogen commonly found to colonize the nares of healthcare personnel, was challenged with four test materials.
Results: Compared to control treatments, Nozin reduced the bacterial growth by 90-95% even in the protective environment of the biofilm.
Nozin controls germs for hours in human subjects
Summary: The effect of NOZIN on the growth of bacteria in the nose was tested by applying Nozin or a control reagent to the noses of 30 subjects. The number of bacteria recovered from the nose was then determined over a 12 hour period following the application. The number of bacteria recovered from the Nozin-treated group was reduced by 90% compared to the control-treated group.
Results: Nozin inhibits the growth of bacteria in the nose and this effect lasts for up to 12 hours.
Nozin is shown to be safe in dermal toxicity and skin irritation study
Summary: Nozin Nasal Sanitizer was tested in human subjects to determine whether it could induce direct toxic effects to the skin or whether it could stimulate the development of allergic responses. To test the toxic effect, Nozin was applied to a single location on the skin of the subjects once daily for 21 days. It’s ability to produce toxic effects was compared to a 0.1% solution of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, a common ingredient in soaps, shampoos, and other skin and hair care products. After a rest period of 2 weeks, Nozin was reapplied to see if an allergic response to Nozin had developed.
Results: Compared to the commonly used Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, there was no evidence of toxicity or allergic responses induced by Nozin Nasal Sanitizer. Subjects did not become sensitized to Nozin and none of the subjects experienced an increase in skin irritation up to seventy-two (72) hours following the challenge exposure of three (3) weeks.
Nozin® Nasal Sanitizer®: Defense that makes sense
Nozin Nasal Sanitizer is an innovative, patent pending product that benefits consumers by providing extra protection against cold and flu germs when potential exposure to these pathogens is likely. In the past decade, hand sanitizers have become recognized and popularly used to deter transmission of germs. However, these products only disinfect for a brief period of time and provide limited protection against most illnesses. Because hand-to-nose contact is an important mechanism for the transmission of viral infection, it is beneficial to sanitize the nose as well with Nozin.
Nozin has a unique antimicrobial formulation that sanitizes the distal area of the nose and helps control germ populations that come to reside there. Lab tests show that Nozin kills germs that cause cold and flu. Human trial results show that one application of Nozin can be effective for over eight hours.
Unlike many existing products that purport to offer protection, Nozin is unique in that it attacks germs at the nose where most infections can occur. The Center for Disease Control already heavily promotes the importance of frequent hand washing and of hand sanitizers in helping prevent cold and flu germs residing on hands from being transmitted to the nose. The antimicrobial effect of Nozin is longer lasting than that of hand sanitizers and Nozin directly targets the chief area of infection, the nose. Nozin adds a targeted, long-acting level of defense by shielding your nose from hand-borne or airborne germs. Regular use of Nozin in conjunction with hand washing could provide a very effective hygienic regimen which can help reduce the risk of infection.
Many top physicians and scientists realize the compelling logic of hygienic innovation that Nozin offers. Nozin Nasal Sanitizer is a professionally valued and sensible approach in the effort to reduce the risk of infection.
Significance of Nozin as a virucidal agent
The role of direct contact with hand contamination in the spread of colds was examined in a study in which iodine was used as a virucidal agent. In this study, the incidence of common colds was reduced by 40% in mothers who were treating their hands with iodine compared to mothers who used a placebo. While iodine may not have a preferred safety profile, this study suggested that an effective virucidal agent that had residual activity on the hands for 2 to 3 hours could have an important impact on the spread of colds in the natural setting.
Our studies suggest that the active ingredients in Nozin Nasal Sanitizer are safe and have substantial virucidal activity against a wide variety of pathogenic organisms. Nozin Nasal Sanitizer has anti-viral and antimicrobial activity that persists for hours after application.

We believe that the observation that Nozin has virucidal and anti-microbial activity that persists for hours after application has important implications for the prevention of many infections. In light of the ubiquitous occurrence and medically important consequences of these infections, and due to the lack of effective alternative treatments, this simple and safe intervention could be an effective aid in the reduction of infections.
The toll of sickness
In the course of a year, individuals in the United States suffer 1 billion colds. It is estimated that each year Americans average at least three bouts of a cold or flu. The impact of such sickness is enormous. The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) estimated that, in 1998, 66 million cases of the common cold in the United States required medical attention or resulted in restricted activity. According to a 2003 study by the University of Michigan Health System, colds cause nearly 400 million missed work and school days each year at a cost of $20 billion. Additionally, more than $1.1 billion is spent annually on the estimated 41 million antibiotic prescriptions for colds, even though antibiotics have no effect on a virus but do contribute to the problem of antibiotic resistance by bacteria.
The high level of interest in the spread of disease is reflected in frequent, popular news reports on real and potential disease outbreaks. News about SARS, the potential for new, dangerous strains of influenza and shortages in flu vaccines have raised awareness of the vital import of better preventative measures.
According to the US Census Bureau there were 630 million US airplane passengers in 2003. Several studies indicate an increased risk of infection for passengers where 1 in 5 may get sick. Travelers may have good reason to associate contraction of illness with prolonged exposure to confined areas such as crowded airplane cabins. Learn more facts about the risk of infection.
Conclusion: Benefits of using Nozin® Nasal Sanitizer®
Many consumers are aware that every time they are in a crowded plane, bus, train, or in other settings where people congregate, they are exposed to germs and, therefore, more susceptible to illness. People are seeking ways of better protecting themselves. The products that do exist and are available for sale (vitamins, facemasks, hand sanitizers) are limited in their function. Other medicines used, such as antibiotics, are not intended for colds. Put simply, the “tools” that exist today are insufficient in their ability to protect us from many of the pathogens that seriously threaten our health. Nozin Nasal Sanitizer directly addresses the need of consumers to take action against harmful pathogens.
Better health and enhanced lifestyle can be key benefits of using Nozin. Consumers who adopt and commit to a low-cost and effective hygienic regimen need to know they are doing something to help ensure their health and improve their quality of life. Less sick time on or off the job means more productivity and well-being at work and at leisure.
Top physicians and scientists realize that the hygienic benefits Nozin Nasal Sanitizer offers could provide critical first line defense in high risk, crowded or confined areas (e.g. airplanes, offices, schools, theaters, etc). Nozin Nasal Sanitizer can help reduce the risk of infection as an important part of health maintenance and in the fight against disease transmission.
